Brother Fox, Hawthorn

Decided to go to this restaurant purely because it has an urbanspoon rating of 93%, and I can say I was very happy with it and understand why it has such a high rating.

The cafe has a very warm and inviting interior design, with the brick walls and the open space. The staff were very friendly and gave us good recommendations on what to eat. The only slight downside was that the food took a little longer to come than you would usually expect, but everything else was good. Also, breakfast is only offered All Day on weekends, so on weekdays you have to go before 11:30 if you want it.

The food itself was delicious, and reasonably priced considering the portions. We ordered one of Brother Fox's specialties  the Bliss Burger ($16), which consisted of a thick beef pattie, cheese, caramalised onions, bacon, egg, tomato and leafy greens such as rocket. It also came with chips on the side, so definitely worth the money.

The other dish we ordered was the Grilled Chicken Spaghetti ($11), which was served with mushrooms, spinach and onions in a cream sauce. What was good about this dish was that although it was a creamy base sauce, it didn't make you feel bloated and too full to finish it, as you often find with such bases.

Overall, I was happy with this cafe, and will definitely be going again to try their breakfast for sure!

  2. We found ourselves at Brother Fox last Friday night after another restaurant had bungled our reservation. What a delightful turn of events!!

My friends all had entrees which they raved about (quesadillas, spring rolls) and then our mains came. Two of us had the fish (snapper and calamari pieces) which was exquisitely seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. How often do you get calamari that's little more than fried rubber bands?? Not here. This was tender, moist and delicious.

Another friend had what appeared to be the only authentic caesar salad I've seen served in Australia (I don't get out enough?) and another had the Portuguese spicy chicken that she loved. Desserts were also scrummy.

We waddled home, moaning about how yummy it was and how we'd eaten too much because it was too good to leave. Prices were very reasonable and service was lovely. Well done Brother Fox. We will be back for sure!!
